At a glance

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most iconic safari destination, located in the southwestern part of the country, bordering Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Known for its vast open savannahs, rich wildlife, and dramatic landscapes, the Mara offers one of the best game-viewing experiences in Africa.

Situated approximately 270 km from Nairobi, the reserve is accessible by road (5–6 hours drive) or via short domestic flights to nearby airstrips such as Keekorok, Ol Kiombo, and Mara North.

Maasai Mara is divided into main reserve and surrounding conservancies, each offering unique experiences:

  • Talek & Sekenani Gate Area – Popular for accessibility and high wildlife concentration
  • Mara Triangle – Less crowded, excellent for game viewing and scenic landscapes
  • Mara North Conservancy – Exclusive safari experience with fewer vehicles
